Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Community Members,
It has been a very busy and event filled end to the term.
Harmony Day
Our Harmony Day assembly in week 8 was an amazing showcase of the variety of cultures and languages spoken in the Ashdale Primary community. Thank you to the Italian and Performing Arts teaching teams who co-ordinated items for the assembly with students from Pre-primary to Year 6.
Your Move
Last Friday students and families participated in the National Walk/Ride2School day as part of the Your Move project run by the City of Wanneroo. We saw around 90 bikes using the bike racks with most of those students selecting to participate in the lunchtime slow bike race.
P&C events
Last Friday evening the Ashdale Primary community started Ashdale’s Science week with a Scitech fundraiser night. Students and families enjoyed exploring Scitech for the night including watching shows in the planetarium, enjoying a pizza dinner and buying treats from the cake stall. Thank you to the P&C that made this such a successful and enjoyable event.
Coming up next term on the 25th May the P&C is holding a Quiz night. More information will be coming next term.
Science Week
This week Ashdale Primary are celebrating Science week with the theme, “Species Survival – More than just sustainability”. Classes have also been making kites out of recycled materials as part of Ashdale’s 20 year celebration and we look forward to seeing these on display at Learning Journey later in the year.
Congratulations to Mrs Htoo and her Year 6 STEM students who came 4th at the Synergy Solar Car challenge held earlier this month.
Kind regards
Debbie Terry
Solar Car Challenge
This term, a group of year 6 STEM students went to St Mark's Anglican Community School to complete in the Synergy Schools Solar Car Challenge. They worked as a team to create a solar car and raced it against various other schools. They were successful in placing fourth. A huge congratulations to the Ashdale team that participated!
Science Week Conservation Crisis Game LA24
Species Survival
Set up your ecosystem by collecting the following species and blue tack then on your Ecosystem sheet.
4 worms 4 snails 3 bees 3 butterflies 3 moths 3 flowers 2 parrots 2 shore birds 2 trees 2 shrubs 2 frogs 1 owl 1 lizard 1 koala 1 possum
Flip a coin.
Heads choose a positive impact card.
Tails choose a negative impact card.
Read the scenario and carry out the instructions by either adding or removing species from your ecosystem.
In the card game record sheet record the details of the change in species due to the action on the card.
Science helps us understand ecosystems and unravel the genetic code of different species.
Technology creates tools for conservation.
Drones and artificial intelligence (AI) used to map habitats and count animal populations.
Engineering design solutions like wildlife corridors and living shorelines address habitat destruction.
Mathematics and data science help us predict and measure changes in species population numbers.

Chaplain Chat
Here we are! At the end of Term 1, 2024.
It has been a pleasure seeing all the smiling faces during Recess and Lunch this term; the students playing and enjoying summer. I am often impressed by their resilience, seeing them running around and having fun on those hot days: Their boundless energy and determination to play, even when they too, are clearly feeling the heat. It is heartwarming to see!
I would like to wish our Ashdale community a wonderful Easter break and a refreshing holiday. I am looking forward to buzzling Term 2!
