Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Community Members,
As we prepare to close business at Ashdale Primary for the 2024 year, its’s important to recognise those staff members, students and families who will be ending their time at Ashdale.
Thank you to the following staff who will be leaving us,
- Mrs Jayne McKernan, will be retiring as Manager Corporate Services after 17 years at Ashdale Primary.
- Mr Steve Day has permanently transferred to Statewide Services as a Classroom Management Specialist. Mr Day was a favourite with our upper primary students.
- Mr Andrew Thompson will be taking paternity leave for 2025, and we thank him for his services over the last two years.
- Mrs Candice Grinceri will be finishing up in the role of Physical education and music teacher. Mrs Grinceri has been involved with the school for over 15 years as a parent and teacher.
- Mrs Kate Browning has accepted a role at Eddystone Intensive Language centre for 2025.
To our year six students, we wish you well as you enter numerous secondary schools across the state. I’m sure you will look back at your time at Ashdale Primary with great fondness. Also, to the students who are attending a different school, we also wish you well.
To the families of our year six students, some who have been with us for 15 years and more. Great schools are built upon good cultures, and without your ongoing and unquestionable support, our culture would not as strong and robust.
After many years of a productive relationship with OSHClub they will be departing at the end of the year. We part company on good terms and an appreciation of their services over eight years.
I would like to thank all the staff, students, P&C and School Board members and the wider community for their support and wish everyone all the best for the school holidays
On a personal level, I would like to thank everyone for their support of my health journey throughout 2024. Especially, Mrs Deb Terry who led the school in my absence. I’m looking forward to 2025 and continuing in the role of Principal.
Happy Holidays
Regards
Mr Watson
School Board
The Ashdale Primary School board would like to take this opportunity to thank all members of our school community for supporting Ashdale Primary School in 2024, and wish them a relaxing, fun and safe summer holidays ahead.
The school board works quietly behind the scenes, contributing to the good governance of Ashdale Primary School. In 2024 we were particularly impressed with the school’s excellent NAPLAN results and the progress Ashdale staff are making through the highly-renowned Edvance program.
We discussed the impact of the increase of school uniform prices on the families at Ashdale, and voted once again to have school voluntary contributions and charges remain the same. We received regular updates from Mr Watson regarding staffing changes and playground and classroom additions and updates.
We listened to presentations on behaviour management strategies in the school, assessment and reporting schedules, and the finances involved in student-centred funding. We also heard from languages teachers and analysed the results of the teachers’ Occupational Health (OHI) results. Board members were also involved in overseeing that due diligence was followed in the appointment of new OSH providers.
If you are interested in attending a board meeting, we hold an open community board meeting in term 4 annually, or if you are interested in becoming a school board member in 2025 please indicate your expression of interest by emailing Ashdale.PS@education.wa.edu.au
Wishing you all a very happy Christmas, peaceful holidays and looking forward to a wonderful 2025 ahead.

Ashdale Playgroup End of Year Recap
As we wrap up another wonderful year at Ashdale Primary Playgroup, we reflect on all the fun and exciting moments we’ve shared together. This year, the children had a blast exploring a variety of activities, from squishing and shaping colorful play dough to creating beautiful crafts that sparked their creativity. Our sensory play sessions were a big hit, allowing the little ones to engage their senses and discover new textures, sounds, and materials.
One of the year’s most memorable moments was our special Christmas visit from Snowy the Reindeer, who brought holiday cheer and excitement to everyone. It was a truly magical experience for both the children and their families!
We’re looking forward to welcoming back old friends and meeting new families when Playgroup returns in 2025. The first session of the new year will be on Monday, February 10, from 8:45 to 10:45 AM in LA33. We can’t wait to see all the smiling faces again and to continue creating wonderful memories together. See you in the new year!
Warm regards,
The Ashdale Playgroup Team

Let’s band together to save lives! Join our Lifeblood Team
We’re proud to be part of Lifeblood Teams, the group donation program from Australian Red Cross Lifeblood.
Aside from saving lives through blood donation, Lifeblood Teams is about friendship, a little healthy competition and being part of something bigger than yourself. It’s a unique opportunity for all of us to band together and give something more powerful than money.
Donated blood can be used to help people in all sorts of life-giving ways. The need is constant and the person receiving it could be fighting cancer or going through a difficult pregnancy, or they could be someone who relies on regular transfusions to stay healthy — or even, stay alive. Now that’s something worth uniting for!
There’s nothing like knowing you’ve genuinely helped someone, and we’d love to share that amazing feeling with you.
Register today and join “Ashdale Primary School Community” Lifeblood Team.
So the way it works is that parents can join the Lifeblood Team, then every donation they do will count against the tally of lives saved which anyone can see online here: Lifeblood Team Results
Currently Ashdale Primary School are up to 165 which is amazing.
To join the “Ashdale Primary School Community” Lifeblood Team parents will need to be registered with us first.

Planning is underway for 2025. If your child/ren won’t be returning to Ashdale Primary School in 2025, or leaving prior to the end of this year, can you please email the office ashdale.ps@education.wa.edu.au and let us know their date of departure and the new school they will be attending in 2025.

This notice will be a letter from your child’s 2025 class teacher. It will provide you and your child with information to make the first day of school run smoothly.
We will not be posting student names and classes on the pin-up boards, as we have done in previous years.
School Voluntary Contributions (including P & C Contribution)
Have you paid the voluntary contribution $60/student and P & C Levy $40/family?
We encourage payments via the Qkr! app – this is a very simple and quick process and alleviates the need for busy parents to come into the office or send money in with students.
Instructions on how to download the App are available on our website from the link below or see the Qkr! Tip article below.
- Remember to change the profile (year, LAs etc) for your children when first accessing Qkr! for the year
- Alternative payment methods (cash/eftpos/credit card) are available through the front office.
- Families may pay the Voluntary Contribution in instalments.
Student Update Forms
It is important that our school’s database is up to date with student’s current details, this includes family contact details.
Families can update their child’s details held at the school by completing an online form on the Ashdale Primary School website.
This is located under the home tab, or use the following link https://www.ashdaleps.wa.edu.au/contact-student-update-form
If you require any further information, please contact the school on 6207 4500 or email Ashdale.ps@education.wa.edu.au.
P&C News
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much” Helen Keller
The Ashdale P&C are a group of volunteers dedicated to enhancing the schooling experience of all Ashdale students. P&C members come from all sorts of backgrounds and volunteer varying amounts of time to fundraise and support community events across the school year – when we reflect on the activities of our P&C in the 20th Anniversary year of Ashdale Primary School we can see it was certainly one to remember!
The activities supported by our incredible P&C and community volunteers included:
- Scitech Night
- Easter raffle
- Adults-only 2000s themed Quiz night
- World Teacher’s Day morning tea
- Father’s Day Stall
- Disco
- ‘Your Move’ Campaign, including Ride to School day, Walk to School Safely day, Bike safety education sessions and active transport strategies across the year
Funds raised through P&C fundraising were put towards hats and library bags for new students to the school as well as the Ninja Playground and the new Audio Visual screen in the undercover area (both joint projects with the school).
We would like to take a moment to acknowledge and express our gratitude to the local businesses that have generously supported and contributed to our Ashdale Primary P&C this year. We sincerely appreciate every donation, no matter how big or small! Each contribution has significantly impacted our school community.

Flavours of Ashdale Canteen News
It has been a busy year in the Flavours of Ashdale canteen. The canteen is managed through our P&C and like many small businesses in the current financial climate there have been some challenges in maintaining a healthy, affordable 5 day a week canteen service that covers its own costs. Consequently, there will be some changes to both the menu and operations of the canteen in 2025 as the P&C, along with canteen staff, continue to work hard to ensure Flavours of Ashdale continues to run successfully and deliver a high-quality and affordable service to the community.
The canteen will be reducing from 5 days a week to 4 days week as of Term 1, 2025. We will be CLOSED Mondays and will open Tues-Friday for both recess and lunch service. The menu will also be reduced to accommodate changes to staffing and will offer various daily specials as well as some firm favourites.
Following the success of recess pre-ordering we will be continuing this into 2025 and extending this service to the Kindy and Pre-Primary students. Details are being finalised for this and we will communicate this information via our P&C Facebook page early in the new year.
Our end of year lunch special is Subway (and a cookie!) which is currently available to order online via QkR! – please get all orders in by Monday 9 December.
A huge thank you is extended to our dedicated canteen staff Caroline, Tania, Rebecca and Nadia for all their hard work in 2024. We thank the Ashdale community for your ongoing support of our canteen and look forward to serving you healthy, delicious food in 2025!
Please direct any enquiries regarding the canteen to the P&C email, pandc.ashdaleps@outlook.com .
