Principal’s Report
Dear Parents and Community Members,
2023 Book Week
The 2023 Book Week was again, a tremendous success. Every year, the experience provides our students with a wonderful array of book-based activities, and it always culminates with our special “Costume Parade” on the Wednesday assembly. The students and staff absolutely love dressing up as a “loved Character”! Special thanks to the Literacy Team, led by Mrs Sonja Topping for coordinating such a great event.
Lightning Carnival
A favourite day of the school calendar is the Lightning Carnival, were our year 5/6 students get to play their chosen sport against our cluster schools. Sports played include, Modcrosse, AFL, Netball, Soccer and Hockey. Our teams always display impeccable sporting acumen and the Netball A Team were the victors by bringing home the pennant.
School Board Meeting
At our recent School Board meeting we had an extremely busy agenda. This included a:
- Presentation by Ms Marianne Quinton, Visual Arts Teacher. Ms Quinton shared how the Visual Arts program functions within the school and its value to the students.
- Presentation by Alannah, OSHClub about the service provided for before/after school care.
- Discussion on the role of Ngala - Parenting, Family, Children and Youth Support in the community
- Update on the Good Standing Policy
School Board meeting minutes can be found on the Ashdale Primary website at the following link:

Internet use
In closing, I urge parents and caregivers to be vigilant with supervising students accessing the internet. We often deal with situations when students inadvertently and/or sometimes intentionally misuse the internet. Often, when this happens, parents/care givers are surprised with the student’s behaviour.
Defined and well-structured protocols can eliminate this inappropriate use at the home.
Regards
Tony Watson

BE PART OF SOMETHING MORE - JOIN THE P&C
We hope all new families to Ashdale are settling in nicely. Even amongst the more seasoned Ashdale families, with Term 2 well underway, our students are hopefully feeling more confident in their new classroom and feel more familiar with their new group of teachers and educators.
Our P&C is always looking for volunteers to help us with various activities planned for Ashdale. Joining our P&C is easy! It only takes 2min on Qkr and just $1. You will then be alerted before each meeting, provided with an agenda and reports, be able to vote as we raise various motions and afterwards, you will be amongst the first to receive meeting minutes.
P&C meetings are full of useful information, not limited to just P&C activities. Our Principal is a frequent attendee and reports on the progress of the school’s strategic plans, its achievements and performance.
If you would like to know more about what it means to join the P&C, please reach out to our team at at pandc@ashdale.org.au or submit your details here!
The next P&C Meeting will take place on 25th July 2023
